Plus Locker is a nifty plugin for WordPress that encourages users on a site to interact and reveal additional content. It is obviously aimed at website owners and more specifically at website owners who run a website on WordPress. The idea behind it is it will help with improving the social SEO element which will increase visibility of a site in search engine results pages.

As Google have shifted emphasis towards social elements and the ranking algorithm is more heavily geared towards user interaction, Plus Locker makes it easy to get the most out of Google +1′s. Obviously it will not mean every site owner using Plus Locker will immediately rise to the top of search engine rankings as there are other elements involved in SEO that will ultimately determine the final ranking positions. However, Plus Locker will maximize the amount of Google +1′s you can get for each page on a site and therefore maximize the portion of ranking score assigned to social interaction. If the other SEO elements are in place then it can help elevate a site higher in search results pages.

Installing Plus Locker is simple. It follows the same process as installing just about any other WordPress plugin. After installing the plugin you need to activate it. Once activated it is available to use on any page or post within the WordPress admin editor. You should notice a new icon in the visual editor panel. For every piece of content you want to reveal after someone clicks +1 you simply need to highlight it and click the Plus Locker icon. This wraps it in a Plus Locker tag and reveals the content to any user clicking on the relevant +1 button.

Similar plugins have existed in the past that reveal content when an action is performed. The technology itself is not new, but the way it is used with Plus Locker may help improve the visibility of a website in Google results pages. Previously, reveal content scripts were more prominently used to maximize revenue on a site by getting people to subscribe to mailing lists or entering their details to win prizes. The way Plus Locker uses it does not mean people having to sign up to anything they may regret later and therefore it won’t create any customer service issues.
